I am proud to be the band director at West Middle School! This is my 28th year of teaching and 19th at West. Prior to coming to West in 2007, I was director of bands at Vicksburg High School for nine years.
I grew up in the Detroit area and graduated in 1993 from L'Anse Creuse North High School in Macomb Township. While at North our band traveled and performed in Disney World and England! I also got to travel to New Orleans and march in the Mardi Gras Parades. One parade was seven miles long!
I attended Western Michigan University and was Drum Major of the Bronco Marching Band for two years! I also attended the VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois, where I earned a Masters Degree in Music Education.
I had a great time teaching in Vicksburg. I took my bands to England, Disney World and Hawaii! I even got to dance in front of 500+ people at Germaine's Luau while in Hawaii!
My beautiful wife and I have been married for fourteen years. We just celebrated our anniversary in July. My wife is a great science teacher at Northern High School (go Huskies!). Hopefully, many of you will have the chance to have Mrs. Kozian as a teacher. We also have a puppy (Kirby) along with a goldfish!
I have two awesome and crazy boys; Benjamin is eleven and Dennis is thirteen. I am so thankful to have them and my wife in my life! Both boys will attend WMS this year! I am so excited!
When I am not at school, I enjoy hanging out with my family, doing yard-work and going up north...we have a condo on Lake Huron!
I am so lucky to teach at West! I hope to make difference by making great music!
